Drop a single stone into still water, and the impact doesn't stay in one place. It moves outward, ring after ring, reaching far beyond the spot where it first landed.
Community support works the same way. When a local business partners with us for a fundraiser, or a donor makes a gift to support our programs, the impact doesn't end there.
It travels outward, to the people we support, to their families, to our staff, and eventually to the wider St. Catharines community. At Community Living St. Catharines, we see that ripple effect every day. This Thanksgiving season, we want to take a closer look at how it happens.
Every ripple starts with a single choice. A business owner decides to collaborate in a fundraising event. A family sets up a monthly donation. A local organization offers to co-host an event or open its doors to the people we support.
On its own, each choice might seem small. Together, they make it possible for Community Living St. Catharines to support more than 800 people through 19 programs, including children's services, adult accommodations, and community participation supports. None of that happens in isolation. It happens because people across St. Catharines and the Niagara Region decide to be part of it.
Community partners help us do something we could never do alone: bring inclusion into everyday spaces.
This past summer, partners like Merrittville Speedway and the Welland Jackfish helped turn fundraisers and socials into shared community experiences. Organizations like Best Buddies connect volunteers with the people we support, creating friendships that continue long after an event ends.
Partnerships like these create impact in several ways:
When a partner opens its doors, it sends a clear message: everyone belongs here. That message reaches customers, employees, and neighbours, and it helps shift how St. Catharines understands disability, dignity, and belonging.
Donor support is one of the clearest examples of the ripple effect in action. Here's how one gift moves outward.
1. It reaches the person supported.
Donations help fund the programs, activities, and everyday experiences that build confidence, independence, and connection. For someone trying something for the first time, whether that's a community activity, a new skill, or a new friendship, that support matters.
2. It reaches families.
When the people they love are supported, families gain peace of mind. They know their loved one has a trusted team and a community that is invested in their wellbeing.
3. It strengthens our staff and programs.
Our 200+ employees and 70+ volunteers and students rely on community support to deliver high-quality programs. Donations help provide the resources that allow staff to focus on what matters most: meaningful, person-centred support.
4. It shapes the wider community.
Every program that helps someone participate fully in community life makes St. Catharines a more inclusive city. A person who shops, works, volunteers, and celebrates alongside their neighbours changes how the whole community sees inclusion.
Thanksgiving is a natural time to pause and reflect on the people who make our work possible. Since 1953, Community Living St. Catharines has been built on the generosity of people who believe that everyone deserves a full, meaningful life.
To every partner who has hosted an event, every donor who has given, and every person who has shared our story: thank you. Your support doesn't stop where it lands. It keeps moving outward, reaching people you may never meet, in ways that last well beyond a single season.
Every ripple needs a starting point. If you're looking for a meaningful way to support inclusion in St. Catharines, here's how you can get involved:

Community Living St. Catharines exists because community matters. When partners and donors choose to get involved, the impact reaches further than any of us could manage alone.
